my mark

Bonjour M. Larouche,

I have done all my work for this course through conniemayerickson@gmail.com  Please send my mark to the same address.

I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed your class and learned more than I ever imagined possible.  Thank you for opening my eyes and my mind to the world of language and technology.  And thanks for the great advice, you are an inspiration for me.

Happy Sailing!
Connie

Making movies

Here is what I made in class with my wise and wonderful partner Gail, yesterday and today.  While the movie is less than 3 minutes long, it still took about 3 hours for the two of us to produce.  So I think the rule of thumb for time allowance should be:
     -  For each minute of finished project you require, allow 2 man-hours of time. (one for me and one for Gail).  So for Gail and I to produce the less than 3 minutes, it took less than 6 man hours.
    -  If you are inexperienced and working alone, as I often am, double the above.  So without Gail's valuable knowledge and experience, if I were doing this alone, it may have taken 12 hours.

We used many iMovie features for this, including voiceover, clip editing, importing wordles from downloads.  We used my MacBook Pro to record the video because I forgot my iPad yesterday.  I know that we could have done so much more with this concept; adding words individually, recording and inserting student practice, improving and repeating pronunciation etc.

This was a very valuable exercise.  Thanks for teaching us how to use this tool and for giving us the time  to get it done.

Happy Friday

Well, what excites me most about today's class, apart from the fact that it's Friday and I can come out of my student cocoon for a few short hours, is that I discovered symbaloo.  I can see for my students that by setting them up, I can share with them the bookmark tiles they might benefit from most.

I've never spent time looking for online tools, I guess that's why I'm here.  It's a bit overwhelming to see so many as listed in cooltools, but it's great to use them.

If you're interested, here's a link to an old presentation, converted to flipsnack.

A Better Day

Elluminate.
I know it would be so good for working with students who can't get there because of sick kids, appointments, bad weather, injuries and ailments, travel.
For the teacher, it seems it should allow for the same.  I think Elluminate makes the world small and portable.  It allows us to be in separate places and brings us together to learn.  I think I would like to learn to use it before I have to start taking all my on-line courses.

I know I would like to use it for my work, and likely will try the free version, just as soon as I can find some other willing participants.

Some other things I picked up today for future exploration are:
- 2Learn.ca
-camtasia suite
- watch the youTube on Pivot because I couldn't watch it in class
-polycom pvx

Not just a better day, a very good day : )
